Vintage Car Poster DIY 09.21.15

One of my favorite decor pieces in Luke’s toddler room is the vintage car poster above his bed.  I couldn’t find a ready to buy car art in the size and look I had in mind, so I set to print one out myself.

If you’re interested in printing and framing one in the same manner, here’s what you need:

A printable image – rounded wood moulding – two eye hooks – ribbon for hanging – black spray paint – staple gun.

I obtained the image from Shutterstock and resized it to the size I wanted.  When you purchase the image, make sure the resolution is high enough to allow for printing at the size you desire.

The poster above his bed is a 26×34.  I had this printed on Vinyl paper, which is thick and sturdy, allowing me to staple it to the wood trim and hang without framing it.

After I got my print, I went to home depot and got them to cut me two pieces of rounded moulding two inches wider than my print size.  I then painted them in black and stapled the print to the back.

Finally, I attached the eye hooks to the wood trim, hooked a ribbon through them and hung it above his bed. It turned out really nice!

Luke’s Car Themed Big Boy Room 09.09.15

Resources: car bed - lighting pendent - night stand - teepee or similar

I’m finally done with Luke’s room! I’m so excited to share it with you and glad it’s off my back. We really wanted him to love the space and want to spend time playing in his room, so we figured a car themed room would be perfect. I also wanted to furnish it with items that he will not outgrow anytime soon.

He was so excited when the car bed was installed and instantly fell in love with the space.  We had no problem transitioning him into this bed from his crib. He loves hanging out and reading books on his car bed.

This is the dresser we had in his nursery. We found it fit perfectly in the new space and the wood finish provided a warm touch to the cool color pallet.

I love this teepee, it’s very spacious and the perfect size for him to grow into.

The vintage car poster was a DIY. I purchased the image from Shutterstock and printed it on plastic thick paper.  I also love the two tone triangle decals which I found on Etsy.

We had these comic posters printed on aluminum sheets for an aged, vintage look. They came out real nice!

Powder Room Makeover – Before and After 06.17.15

comment & share

I’m happy to have one of the 4 areas I’ve been wanting to design in my house completed! The powder room is done and I couldn’t be happier with the results. I shared my inspiration and design plans for the room here. As I mentioned before, I wanted it to have a dark and elegant look with classic lines.  As much as I would have loved to put up that wall paper and have that custom sink, it was way out of my budget for the room. I knew I could get the same feel and look by taking elements that define the space and reintroducing them in a way that’s within my budget. That meant dark walls and gold accents along with classic lines. I love the transformation!

As I mentioned before, the powder room is extremely small! So it was a challenge finding a pedestal sink that fit in the space with the lines I had in mind. The Kohler Memoires sink was perfect though! I love its elegant look and classic lines. I also came across The Kohler Purist faucet and instantly fell in love! This was my main splurge and I think it’s totally worth it. I love the finish and the lines and everything else about this faucet! I got it in the vibrant modern brushed gold finish.

The toilet was also from the Memoirs series by Kohler. I stuck with the gold finish for the toilet paper holder as well as the towel ring. Love the quality + price on these! I got them both in the antique finish.

To a certain extent, I love mixing different design styles. Since everything in the bathroom boasted the classic traditional look, I wanted the art to be abstract and modern. I found this print on etsy and had it printed at my local printer.

Powder Room Inspiration and Design 06.07.15

comment & share

Now that I’m finally wrapping up the powder room, I would like to share with you my inspiration for the room as well as the design board I’ve put together.

In really small rooms, I’ve always been drawn to strong bold statements and dark colors. It doesn’t get smaller than our powder room. I posted a before picture here, and as you can see, it’s tiny and boring!

I knew I wanted to have dark walls and gold accents.  While looking on pinterest, I came across this bathroom and instantly fell in love with its elegant and traditional look.

This marble sink with gold/brass pedestal legs had me drooling! It looks pretty expensive right? right! I looked into it and found that it would cost me double the budget I had set for the entire bathroom to have this sink custom made (Since our powder room is so small, I would have had to customize it). So after grieving it for half a day, I started putting together a design board that would result in a similar look and feel as the above bathroom but within my budget.

Here’s my design board.  I am very happy with the end results and love how elegant the bathroom ended up looking. I will share photos of the room later on this week or early on next week! Resources for this design board are below.

Projects Around the House 05.03.15

comment & share

A few years ago, we built this home from the ground up, so we’ve been living in a blank canvas, waiting for the right time to decorate and personalize the space. I’ve always loved our house from the outside. It has great structure and character.  The inside though, as you can see from the pictures below, is plain boring! Well, I feel like we’ve had enough of waiting and would like to get some rooms finished.

I’ve officially entered nesting mode…Big time! I’m designing and updating four rooms within the next few months.  I’ll be working on the the following:

Nursery for baby girl (due date August 12). This room was Luke’s nursery and will be updated for a baby girl over the next couple months. If you’d like to read about Luke’s nursery, you can find the post here!

Luke’s big boy room. I’ve already posted the initial design board for the room. I’ll be posting an updated one since I’m veering away from some design ideas on the board. All we have in there right now is a bed.

The family room which is currently as boring and dull as it gets will get a major face lift. This room will probably be last on the list and will take much longer to update.  I have so much planned for this room. As you can see, it has good bones! Lots of windows, high ceilings, very spacious. But it’s just boring now.

And finally, the powder room which I’m almost done with and will share on the blog soon!

Other rooms that will probably be finished next year: master bedroom, dinning room, minor kitchen update, and guest bedroom.

I’ll share with you all regular updates as I go through designing and furnishing each room. I can’t wait to have it all done! Keep checking back from inspiration and updates!
